Group Ministries
Sunday Morning Youth Faith Formation
Sept - May from 9:40 - 10:45am
While our younger children are learning the foundational stories of our scriptures, our Middle-School (6th - 8th Grade) and High-School (9th - 12th Grade) youth circle back to these stories on a deeper level to understand how the themes present in these stories are universal, and we engage them in our contemporary world and life every day. The themes that our lessons fall under are below:
1. Beginnings
2. Promise & Covenant
3. Oppression/Slavery and Exodus/Freedom
4. Kingdom/Empire and Prophetic Voices
5. Birth of the Divine
6. Ministry to the Outcast and the Overturning of Conventional Wisdom
7. Death & Resurrection
8. Living in Community and Power of the Spirit
To engage these themes we use the Rob Bell DVD curriculum NOOMA, along with other PBS, YouTube, and Music Videos. Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now, and anybody can be a part of it. He encouraged his listeners to search, to question, to wrestle with the implications of what he was saying and doing. He inspired, challenged, provoked, comforted, and invited people to be open to God’s work in this world. Wherever he went, whatever he did, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is always inviting us to open our eyes and join in. NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus. NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion.
