Events at PUCC

Peace United Church of Christ wants to help make the milestones in your life as meaningful as possible. To do that, we offer a wide variety of services to help make those events even more special.
From weddings to funerals, and beyond Peace United Church of Christ is there for whatever you need.

Weddings

It is the hope of Peace United Church of Christ that every wedding here be an occasion as meaningful and as memorable as possible. A wedding is always a service of the church, made available to couples that seek it. We want to provide, within the framework of our liturgy and tradition, a service for each couple that will be their own, allowing them to start their life together with a true sense of God’s blessing.

THE PASTOR

The church will provide a pastor for your wedding based on availability. Approval must be obtained for participation by pastors from other churches, however a pastor of Peace United Church of Christ will always be present and participate (at his/her discretion) in the service.

THE LICENSE

A marriage license must be obtained from the court administrator at least five days before the wedding service. The bride and groom must be at least 18 years old or have parental and district court permission to marry. A license may be obtained anywhere in the state of Minnesota. Normally the license is issued in the county of the bride’s residence. The license and return envelope is to be dropped off at the church early during the week prior to the wedding, with the names of the two witnesses, who must be at least 16 years old.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION

The pastor requires a minimum of 3-4 meetings with the couple to get acquainted, plan the service, and discuss a variety of marital

issues. If necessary, additional meetings will be determined by the pastor. Please discuss these meeting times with the officiating pastor.

THE REHEARSAL

The rehearsal is held at the convenience of the minister and the wedding party. Suggested time is the evening before the wedding. Everyone involved in the wedding needs to be at the rehearsal, on time.

THE WEDDING COORDINATOR

There will be a wedding coordinator provided by Peace United Church of Christ at both the wedding and rehearsal. The wedding coordinator will assist with all aspects of the service.

FACILITY INFORMATION

The sanctuary comfortably seats 300 (350 if packed in). Dressing Rooms for the Bridal Party and Grooms Party will be made available. Keys will be checked out to you by the wedding coordinator on the eve of the rehearsal.

MUSIC

The church has an organist/pianist on staff. Another pianist/organist may be utilized only upon approval of the pastor. A soloist may be obtained through the church or by the wedding couple with the approval of the pastor. There is a great wealth of wedding music. The pastor can help with choices. Instrumental solos or ensemble music are also appropriate for your wedding. All music is subject to approval by the pastor. We reserve the right to deny use of inappropriate music. If you are using a tape or CD, please provide a copy of the music ahead of time.

THE FLOWERS /DECORATIONS/AISLE RUNNER

Discuss floral arrangements with the pastor and/or the wedding coordinator. Your florist can help with these arrangements. If you wish to leave flowers for the Sunday worship service, let the office know so that special acknowledgement can be made. The church does not provide an aisle runner. The aisle is 50 feet long. To inquire about having your wedding at Peace United Church of Christ, please contact Pastor Paul at 507-282-6117 or pastor@peacechurchucc.org

Funerals

It is the hope of Peace United Church of Christ that every funeral here be an occasion as meaningful and as memorable as possible. We want to provide, within the framework of our liturgy and tradition, a service for each family that will be their own, allowing them to celebrate and pay respect to the precious life they need to say good-bye to. The following has been put together to assist you with the planning and expectations for the funeral.

THE PASTOR

The church will provide a pastor for your funeral based on availability. Approval must be obtained for participation by pastors from other churches, however a pastor of Peace United Church of Christ will always be present and participate (at his/her discretion) in the service.

FACILITY INFORMATION

The sanctuary comfortably seats 300 (350 if packed in). The Fellowship Hall can be used as overflow or as a venue for a reception following. Max seating capacity of the Fellowship Hall is 196.

The church has ability to show picture slide files or powerpoint. If the family creates the picture slideshow file, a copy must be given

in advance to ensure that the format will work. We use PCs with Windows (no MAC conversion). The file can be provided on DVD or via memory stick. If the church will be creating the picture slideshow, all pictures must be provided at least 3 days in advance of the funeral.

BULLETINS

Printed bulletins may be provided, per the direction of the pastor. Information for the bulletin is derived from the service. If the family wishes to include anything additional, please review with the pastor.

Renting Space

1. Peace United Church of Christ desires to maximize use of its available space and facilities to community groups, consistent with the church’s long-time emphasis to share our faith, facilities and resources with the community.

2. It is expected that all groups will clean up after themselves, turn out lights, shut and lock doors (if key is given out), etc. While there is no set-up charge for room use, except for non-member weddings, groups are encouraged to make a donation to help cover the expenses and depreciation of the building.

3. If competing requests for space between a church and non-church group arise, all efforts will be made to accommodate both groups, but if this is not possible, the needs of the church will be given top priority (eg, funerals). 4. Priority to groups will be given in the following order:

Church groups

  1. Service and support organizations that meet regularly, weekly, or monthly
  2. Service organizations like Pre-School, Scouts, etc
  3. Support Organizations like NA, SAA, TGSG
  4. Community Groups like AARP, Blue Grass, Master Networkers
  5. Other community groups

5. Business and ‘for profit’ individuals or organizations will be considered if the nature of the meeting is public service or supports the mission of the church. It is not the business of the church to grant space to those groups that ‘charge’ for their services (if the group makes money they can afford to rent space elsewhere in the community); however, leniency regarding music lessons and music groups may be granted. Requests for facilities are to be made as far in advance as possible. To inquire about renting space, please contact the Church Administrator at 282-6117 or office@peacechurchucc.org

SUNDAY TECH CREW

SUNDAY LUNCH TEAMS

From Sept – May, fellowship lunch is offered to visitors, friends, and members at Peace Church. During the summer months (June & July) we hold an all-church potluck lunch once a month. The Fellowship Lunch immediately follows our second service. These lunches provide a great way to meet others and share in a common meal, but aren’t possible without the support and help of our volunteers. We have 9 teams that rotate throughout the season. Each team consists of approximately 6 – 8 individuals/couples. If you would like to be a part of this amazing ministry, please contact Quintin Dykes at Quintin.Dykes@blackline.com Download the latest Sunday Lunch Team schedule HERE!

ALTAR COMMITTEE

The Altar Committee is made up of 12 members and is responsible for the preparation of the elements for Communion. One person/couple is in charge each month with another member assisting them. They set up the Communion elements, clean up after communion, order supplies, change the paraments on the altar, and prepare the sacristy for the following month. Special events call for members to help, such as at Christmas and Easter. If anyone would like to join the Altar Committee, please contact Mary Karlstad at 282-0006 or call the church office at 282-6117. Download the Communion and Parament Color schedules HERE!
